We went for a long drive today with friends and saw lots of things, but not too many good photos.
I had spotted some water at one side of the road full of geese or ducks, but we couldn't get very close to it. Everything around it was private property. Maybe that's why the geese liked it.
Trying to shoot from the road through the trees. I thought these were all Canadas until I got home and realize that a bunch of them were White-fronted Geese.
The geese close to the shore behind the trees.....one lone white goose in the mix.
I wish I knew what the little duck is that is to the right of the geese!
We watched a pair of Red-tailed Hawks soaring together. I can't even shoot one soaring bird let alone trying to get two of them in focus!
Later in the day, I got Mike to stop for a favorite barn of mine. It's the only round barn I know of in our area. It's south of Washington, Indiana.

In Petersburgh, Indiana they have this great mural honoring Gil Hodges. We were stopped for a light, so it was a good time to catch a photo of it.

I love birds and these pictures are great,but,today my favourite is that lonely pump out in the grass.I think that is gorgeous.

Whaddya mean, not too many good photos?!? I personally really like photos #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, and 12. Picture #3 and the Round Barn are my top two faves, and I like the two Coots. Looks like you had a really productive day in the field.

Great bird shots even from a distance The geese by the shore are lined up like soldiers. Adore the round barn, I guess it stand up better against great winds, they just flow around it.
I too am a fan of squiggly reflections.

Trying to get a different side of a round barn - made me think of a joke I heard about a guy trying to stump a lumberjack. Asked him which was the front of the tree. The lumberjack walked all around the tree, and said this is the front. Guy said how do you know? Lumberjack said 'cause somebody took a dump behind it.

Hi Mary ...I don't know where to start...I got the giggles over a few things the joke about the tree and what side matters of the barn if its round,..which I love by the way...then there is Mikes comment

The only snow I see in your pictures is the spot on the roof of that beautiful round barn, No ice either! How wonderful it must be with so few signs of winter. Maybe that is why there are so many geese around.We have so much snow here, too much! The views from your drive are wonderful and were enjoyable to view.

Ann: Actually we are having cold temperatures and have had several light dustings of snow, but it will warm up this week. I would not like living further north and have so much snow.

I think I heard other explanations of the round barn, but yours may make more sense. Our round barn is red, as you saw. I would think that the logistics of building would trump the extra space, but then, there are so many sorts of structures around the world that are round and are "easy" to put together such as tepees and yurts that that thought is probably not valid.
Katney: I think they were a "fad" in part. But round structures can be very strong and energy effecient...as one who lives in a dome can attest!
