Nothing is more frustrating to me than trying to take photos of things that look interesting while flying down the highway at 60-70 mph (Mike driving, of course). Nine straight hours of that sort of "photography" is enough to make me want to throw the camera in the trunk and forget I have it with me! Sigh. Below are a few images grabbed either going or returning from our trip to Des Moines, Iowa.
The courthouse in Terre Haute, Indiana adorned with pink ribbons at the top.
I liked the other details, too....stopping at red lights helps a bit!

I saw so many little corn cribs and barns that caught my attention! However, I seem to be really good at snapping about the time a tree "jumps" in front of my shot. There were many that looked similar to this one.
Barely got this one before a row of trees got in the way.
I really don't have anything to say about any of these....they are just what caught my eye at a moment when I wasn't feeling too frustrated to even try getting a shot. The farms across Illinois and Iowa are huge, so the buildings are spread very far apart at times.
Very tall behind those trees!
The older buildings were the ones that were most interesting to me. There are tons of huge farms and rows of out-buildings and silos, etc.
Standing alone...the house looks like it would be nice, too.
A passing town....steeples always catch my eye.
Crossing the Mississippi River!
I think the rest of these are on the return trip.

This house was across from the McDonalds where we ate lunch, so I actually got a shot of something NOT through the car window!
This one was next door to the gas station where we filled up.

This one was next door to the gas station where we filled up.I couldn't even begin to shoot photos of any of the birds we saw out the windows.....hawks hovering over the fields or on poles, turkeys on a hillside, egrets in a lake that flashed past, Canada Geese in another lake.
I want to go back and actually SEE all the things that whizzed past.
All I can say for this type of travel is that I'm thankful for good audiobooks to listen to!

Thanks for taking us to Iowa with you, Mary... I loved the trip!!!!! The Illinois barns and farms are amazing... And those huge steeples on the church in that one town are awesome... WOW!!!!!

Mary, I have been going through and looking, but not taking the time to comment. Got to say I have sure loved this post...and loved the one with all the pelicans. Actually enjoyed all, but this one and the pelicans kind of stand out. And I love the one below of the wren!
