Here are some more things we saw at the Saylorville Dam.
I call this the "Coot Armada"
I call this the "Coot Armada" There were several large groups of Coots on the reservoir.
This group was enjoying the rocks along the shore.
And a Great Blue Heron fishing the shallow water there.
We saw lots of gulls and I was hoping there might be more than one kind, but all I can see are the common Ring-Billed Gulls. There are juveniles mixed in with the adults.

Sitting.....just sitting.
Looking over the other side of the dam, this is the view from above.
We drove on down and there were a few trees getting their autumn color.
The water was really raging where it poured out into the river! Mike says this is called a hydraulic jump. It caused a rainbow which you can just see slightly in this photo.

Fishermen were enjoying the waters here.....
....with the help of the gulls!

What a lovely dam. That is such a nice view of it and I am sure many people go there for a picnic.
