I've had four Blue Jays hanging around since it got colder. They love to steal a peanut any chance they get.
Beautiful birds with beautiful colors, but a bit aggressive at the feeders.
One eye on the food dish waiting a chance to drop down for a peanut.
They sometimes hold and peck their seeds just like the Chickadees and Titmice, but I see them fill their mouths with peanuts. They eat just about anything.
I would prefer the other view, but they seem to always be sitting facing away from me :-)
Found a peanut!
In the box eating a few seeds.

Nice looking bird.and just lovely blending colours ,
its the starlings who take over the food here,, seems you have snow, its just cold here did not raise much above 5c today but a good day for the birds with two" new to me" species. plus I saw one wren scurrying about in the undergrowth not much chance of getting a shot in ,
I enjoy the bLue Jays. Their bold calls and colour make the winter seem less drab.
Pretty handsome bird, all in all. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
HI Mary...they are loud, but beautiful blue...hoggish, but funny!!
I love the first four with the head thing going..esp.the 4th!

Blue jays are very pretty birds, and easy to identify. I think that is one reason they are so popular! You have gotten some good shots!
I just see one occassionally here, which is fine with me. A lot of the time the others fly away when the blue jay flies in.
Lovely photos, as always! I have always loved blue jays! Many people don't care to have them around, but I think they are so lovely! Thanks for the suggestion about the suet feeder...you were the second person to suggest it, to help with my woodpecker problem, and I will give it a try. I enjoyed your email, too. Thank you so much!
