After going to the Classic Iron show yesterday, we went for a drive through the Blue Grass FWA. My Classic Iron photos are in my other blog...click here.
Bob White! This was a wonderful surprise! Mike spotted this pair in the tall grass just as we were leaving one of the gravel parking lots. I have never seen them here before and only seen them once or twice in my life anywhere.
They didn't make it easy to get photos, but we got a couple shots of heads bobbing up out of the grass.
Saw lots of Dickcissels sitting tall and singing their songs. Here on the thistles.....
....high in a tree.....
....on a low tree, which is a typical perch for them.
One Goldfinch getting some thistle seeds.
Dead thistle ready for a bird to come eat the seeds.
Thistles.
I have some more photos from the day before out at the wetlands, but this is enough for now. Time to go do something instead of sitting here at the computer :-)

After enlarging your photos I could see just how beautiful the birds and flowers really are.
Nicely done, Mary.
Have a lovely weekend.
I've never seen a Bobwhite before (that I know of) What a lovely bird!
What a special treat to see a new bird.!
I see bobwhites out at the strip pits, but never close enough for shots, except one time. Note the one with the white beard...or I call it a beard--the white on the underside of the chin...that is the male. I so love these...I think quail are just so pretty...and did you ever read the book That Quail, Robert? I was young when I read it and don't really remember much except he was a she and I think laid one egg...
Loved the Bobwhite photos. We used to have quite a few in our area but it has been several years since I have seen one.
An Arkies Musings
As a kid I remember hearing
Bobwhites quite often, but I don't believe I have ever seen one.
That is neat, Mary. I've never seen a Bob White either--although I have known their 'call' since I was a child. So glad that you got to see them...
Hugs,
Betsy
been terrible weather here Mary talk about wetlands.
so I am confined to window bird watch. strange how your land seems to be in Autumn colours thistles seeding etc.
How great, Mary! I've never seen a bobwhite either!
Thanks everyone! It is so hot and dry here. I hope we get a decent rain soon. There would be more flowers if it would rain and then maybe I would find some butterflies.
