I feel like I should apologize for how poor some of these photos are. I just realized today that my old camera is only 5.1 mega pixels! No wonder the far shots are so poor. Sigh.....I hope my other camera gets back to me soon before we are ready to go on a short trip to take nature photos.
At least I have a camera to use at the moment! I was suprised on one of our very wet days to see this female Red-Wing Blackbird at the feeder! I see her mate all the time, but have not seen the female come until now. At first I wasn't sure what it was, since I seldom see her.
She is so different from her black mate. I never realized that there was a faint touch of red color at the top of her wing area until I looked at these. Not as flashy as the males red and yellow wing patches.
I still have a lot of Goldfinches hanging around and in their summer color they are easy to spot. I have had as many as a dozen or more on the driveway with the Indigo Buntings.

I found out that the Cardinals like the peanuts that I bought for the tits and nuthatches.
So now I scatter a few on the drive with the sunflower seeds.
We went to the park looking for Meadowlarks and instead found this lovely Kingbird sitting in the grass looking for insects. (One of those times I really miss the other camera!)
I really like Kingbirds. They are pretty to look at and watching them catch bugs is a lot of fun. I'm not quick enough to catch them in the act with the camera, but I can enjoy watching them.
That little piece of grass he was on barely held his weight, but it gave him a good hiding place to hunt from.
That's it for now.......I'm seeing lots of birds at home, but not getting good photos worth posting.

It must be frustrating without your regular camera at a time when new birds seem to be flying in. I thought I was having a problem with mine yesterday because it seemed to be constantly vibrating even when it was on a tripod...something with the stabilizer probably. I finally set it to constantly control viberations instead of just when I was shooting.
I see red-winged blackbirds around here but never at my feeders. I would love to see some of those indigo buntings again, but since they are by you, maybe they have migrated through here and headed south. It's still pretty chilly here.

Mrs Blackbird might not be a flashy as the male but she certainly has a pretty face.

I enjoyed your pictures, even though they were made by your 'stand-by' camera! I've never seen a female Red-wing Blackbird that close. I didn't know they had that little patch of color on their wing.
Hi Mary...now that I see your female Red wing I'm thinking I don't see them either as much. I see the males ...perhaps he brings home the bacon(seeds)to her. hahaha!!

You sure have a nice variety of birds...I realized how few we have here when we were in Tennessee last week. I wonder if you wake to the same sounds I did down there...I bet you do.
Here there is birdsong before daylight, but it just isn't the variety nor does it seem as loud as it was down there.
I can totally sympathize with you about missing your camera, but I enjoyed all these photos you took. I especially enjoyed the one of the female Red-winged blackbird because I've never seen a close up before and didn't know about the red on the wing.
Your worst shots with the old camera look like some of my best--at least birdwise. I do pretty good with things that stay still.
You are doing OK Mary. Good shots of the red-wing too. I have a few, but far more males.
Spring is so welcome.
