Every spring the Catbird shows up with the Indigo Buntings, Grosbeaks and other summer visitors. I've been trying to get a photo of it, but it hasn't cooperated too well. Today I happen to be sitting outside and it came fairly close to get some suet.
A beautiful gray bird with a black cap. Same family group as the Mockingbird and the Brown Thrasher.
I think they are rather striking and like to listen to their unusual cat-like cry.
He was having trouble hanging on the suet for very long.
He would move over the the roof of the wood feeder to rest in between attempts to get some suet.
There is a rufous colored area under the tail......it shows a bit here.

She does a lot of her bird watching with her eyes closed. Next week her matted fur gets shaved.....she will look very "interesting" after that, but will be more comfortable.

I haven't seen any Catbirds yet, and they never come for suet. How great! Poor Mouse, she doesn't know what she's in for.

HI Mary..I don't have any Indigo buntings,the Catbird is here but , has never been at my suet. Hard to get photos they are skidish!! Your are nice! I love the way they flit there tail!!
I am finding birds eating suet that I didn't know would, I have heard they do(oriole, Mockingbird , Bluebird) this spring for the first time!
The Red Breasted Grosbeak arrived at the feeder this morning, and the Hummingbird 2 days ago!!
Mouse does better than my 19 year old Mona. She sleeps half the time on a heating pad on low, poor old lady!!
Hope that knee is ready for the road races this summer, and that camera too!!
Swallows are fighting over the houses, so all is well here in Lisbon Me. hahaha!!

I have never seen a catbird in my backyard, but cats I do have. They live indoors and are avid birdwatchers. Your kitty loos so soft and pretty.

Oh, I guess you aren't attempting the shave job ... or are you? Poor kitty. But she will be more comfortable if someone homely ... at least for a time.

We listened recently as a catbird actually sand like a mockingbird trying to attract a mate! It was fascinating since we'd only ever noticed the cat cry before. Hope you are doing well.
