Hairy vs. Downy
I don't usually get Hairy Woodpeckers, or I don't recognize the difference between it and the Downy if I do. However, today I decided this was definitely a Hairy. Much bigger, longer bill, white tail feathers. Bigger than the suet cake he was on. He didn't want to pose and was a bit jumpy.....new to my feeder.

Those close shots are so amazing. I love seeing his tongue! Does that make me weird? Your new banner up top is great. I put up a new feeder today and everyone is eating at the old one and ignoring it. Suspicious little devils.

Hairy vs, Downy is always a tricky ID. It always helps if they both show up at your feeder at the same time. Once you've seen the difference, it's easier to recognize the next time. Nice shots. I like the looks of Wesselamn Woods up above. Thanks for visiting my blog!
