The Bluebirds are hanging around!......

I know Bluebirds aren't exciting to everyone, but I don't usually have several hanging around for the winter. I don't even usually have them in the summer since I don't have a nesting box. (I bought one this week!)First there were just 2, but yesterday I saw 3 of them out there!
Their color is so pretty! They sit there fluffed up and cold looking.....hoping I will put something out that they can eat. I'm trying to figure out what to put out that will make them happy.

They pick around in the seeds and eat bits of suet, so I hope they stay awhile.

They have tried every feeder that I have.

Is that criticism, I see in that stare?? Later on I smeared some new peanut butter/suet/raisin/seed mess into this pan, so maybe tomorrow they will find something there they like better.

Feeding Frenzy, fighting against the cold.....

I know that the grass in these photos gives a deceptive idea of the weather right now. For the last 2-3 days the temps have hovered in the teens. These photos were all from Sunday and it was very cold out there!The birds are in a feeding frenzy and flocking to the feeders and searching everywhere under them for food. I don't usually photograph 4 different birds at the same time....all searching in the grass for fallen food. I've had a lot of these Juncos the last couple of days, 3 Bluebirds, some White Throated Sparrows and many Cardinals.
Here it is the Junco, Cardinals, and House Finches.

The day started with a nice surprise! Just as I stepped out on the deck to put out seed, 4 deer were coming around our neighbor's house and ready to head across our yard. Unfortunately, they saw me and started back the other way. I went back in for the camera and by then they were in the field next door and trying to decide which way to go.

I felt bad about scaring them from wherever they were headed, but they chose to go back across the field and away from our house. At least I got a couple of photos before they disappeared!

And just in case you weren't sure about that......"I'm freezing!!!!!"

I've seen more puffed up fluffed up birds sitting around in the trees and bushes.

This angle makes the Blue Jay look more white than blue. He seemed to be on guard while the other 3 were busy looking for food.

My first sighting of the Red-Bellied Woodpecker female for several weeks. I see the male fairly often.

Another fat fluffed up bird.....male House Sparrow. Makes him look cuter than normal.

The females were busy stuffing their faces with food.

A surprise visitor for this time of year....I think it is the Brown Thrasher hiding in the bushes.

He refused to come out for a better shot....darn!

And a fat fluffy Carolina Wren to "round" out the birds for Sunday.

This would be a perfect time for me to be doing the Backyard Bird Count, but it is a month too early!

Cinco and Benton.....

I hope I got the names spelled right! While we were in Ohio, I spent most of my time trying to take photos of two very active young cats. They belong to my sister-in-law and my nephew. Nose to nose....just who does this toy belong to?
Benton won this round.

He was on the go constantly, like all young kittens, but when he did get tired and "crashed" he was always so cute....and easier to take photos of!

He loved this end table and the little lamp which I'm sure gave both light and warmth.

Reminded me of "Chessy Cat" the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad cat from long ago.

Time to kill that bird toy a few more times!

I think Cinco was glad when Benton went home and she could have a peaceful cat nap.

It was too cold and we were too busy with family to get outside looking for photos. Came home to temps in the 20's and 10's which is very cold for southern Indiana! I may be taking a lot of feeder photos for awhile until it gets a bit nicer out!

Squirrel Sunday........resolutions

Well, it's a brand new year....time to make some New Year's Resolutions.....

right, "Star"?How about:

1. Eat more fruits and veggies
2. Get plenty of fresh air and exercise!

"Sounds like a diet to me......DIE-t......

I'll think about it....not!

Are you going to keep these resolutions yourself???"

(hmmm......OK, Star....good point. We'll both try.)

Question...

Blogger will no longer let me copy and paste written material from my work processing program (Works) into my blogs. Does anyone else have this problem or know what to do about it? I don't want to retype stuff I already have typed....very frustrating.
