So is March coming in like a "lion" or a "lamb"? Hard to say. I woke up to frost on the ground and 30 degree temps, but the sun is shining and there is no rain or wind at the moment. The end of February has been VERY rainy! The Ohio River is at flood stage and the Pigeon Creek system tied to it is way out of the banks. This is normal for spring around here. I hope to get some photos.
Coming home the other day we saw this little squirrel way out on a limb. Couldn't figure out why! Maybe just getting a little sun.....it was windy that day.
The Red-bellied woodpecker getting a few sunflower seeds before the squirrel arrives.
Saw two Song Sparrows out scratching in the grass this morning.
Notice the beginnings of daffodils next to him? Yeah!
As long as there is suet, there will be a Downy :-)
The Blue Jay found the seeds, too.
When I stopped by the bank the other day this pigeon was hanging around the ATM machine. Looking for some ready cash? Trying to figure out how to steal someones identity? After all....who would suspect a pigeon?

Not sure about it being a lion or lamb entry myself...still a real chill to the air this morn and we had a huge frost early....the Wabash is flooded...not sure how bad now. Sunday when we crossed, it had a long way to go before it reaches what we consider its highest point.
The squirrel out on the limb looks like he is eating something to me. I don't know what they get from trees but when we had the big maple, our back yard would be littered with their cuttings. We would sit and watch them nibble and cut the twigs and sit and eat something...what I don't know.
Hi Mary... I can't really tell what kind of tree the Squirrel is on,but I know here when the maples start to have some sap dripping out a crack in a branch the squirrels love it!! Maybe he is site seeing lol
I not sure about the "In like a Lion out like a Lamb" or vise-verser thing all I know is is that last Friday we had 12 inches of snow 8 inches yesterday and a couple hours of rain on top of that!!
Talk about some heavy shoveling..I am trying out for "Muscle Women of Maine" contest. HAHA!!
More like a liamb or a lamon here in the NE. Most of our snow is gone. But not one crocus is up yet. First year that's ever happened to me since moving to the east coast.
Glad you escaped the 'brunt' of the storm, Mary... As you can see from my blog today, we had flooding around our area/yard... No damage to the house though nor to us.... JUST lots and lots of rain!!!!

March arrived at -21C this morning. Nippy. But it is to warm up by tomorrow and bring mixed precip. Crazy! It was 0 degrees during the day on Saturday and dropped to -21C by night hours. I sure hope this is the last of the COLD temps. I don't mind just below freezing in March but forget this -20 stuff!
Well here goes, I'm waiting for fresh Snipe photos!
Rose: The water here is terrible from the Ohio River. The tree the squirrel is in is an ornamental pear, but you can see from the little stems on it that the Robins and Waxwings cleaned it out a long time ago. So unless he is eating the twigs?
Grammie G: He is on a pear tree. I took photos one year of our squirrel licking the sap from the maple tree. I don't think it is running yet, but soon. You may be shoveling awhile yet...be careful!
Annie: Ours is sort of a cross between lamb and lion, too. But I do think spring is on the way. The rain has been terrible lately.
Betsy: We got high water all over, too, but at least not in our yard. Our lake is really full!
Cicero: Sorry it is still so cold across the north. I seem to have more northern followers than southern and you all report about the same weather...snow and cold.

We had high winds earlier in the week. So I guess we got the lion.
Ruth: Yes, it was fairly nice. We will probably have some bad storms before winter is over, but not snow...more rain and wind and possible tornadoes around here.
George: We've got high water on some of our birding roads...couldn't get to the eagle nest yesterday.
Becky: Doves/Pigeons are so interesting when you look at the color mixes.
