We were headed through Henderson, KY yesterday, so we stopped to see if there were still any heron in the heronry.
I was scanning the land/water area for heron fishing and instead found a deer staring back at me:-)
She decided to go hide in the bushes until I went away.
Still a few heron in the nests. I think this is a young one testing its wings while an adult keeps watch.

Delightful photos Mary! Love the herns young and old and especially the deer thar got away.
Hi Mary, Great pictures... I love seeing the little Heron spreading his wings.... Cute!!!!
Have a good week --with VBS and with Wimbledon. What is your responsibility at VBS this week???
Hugs,
Betsy
I am always amazed at those Herons on the nests.
I pray that Vacation Bible School will go well.It is so important to get the gospel message to the children.
BLessings,Ruth
Those are just great Mary. Now I must take a ride to the rookery near here to see if there are any left.
Sounds like you have a busy week.

Hi Mary.. thats like going shopping ...you go to pick up one thing and come back with other things too!! The deer are such a pretty color this time of year and the lush greenery made for a great caught!! VBS at my church os in Aug. but it comes fast ...have a good week!!!
Its better to get a Deer rather than a Heron anyway Mary. Lovely shots
I wish I could learn to fly!! :) I will miss out on the fishing though. LOL!!
This is a photographer's paradise!
Hi Mary,
I haven't been here in so long. I wonder if that deer was hiding a fawn.
I was watching Wimbleton last night and this morning. I still wish we had an Agassi or a McEnroe. I miss those years. :)
Oh, my, Mary...I would love to be there in that bottom photo.
Arija: Thanks! She was pretty, but didn't like me watching her.
Betsy: I'd like to watch them trying their first flight. Mike and I are doing the crafts.
Ruth:The nests never look big enough to support them. VBS got off to a fun start last night and we had a nice turnout for it.
Becky: It's get harder to see them when the trees have more leaves. The area where they were fishing is in an awkward spot to try to get photos.
Grammie G: LOL..I like that thought about shopping :-) I'm glad I saw the deer.
Roy: I probably see less deer than herons, so it was a treat.
Joan: I would be fun to fly sometime...just to see what it was like.
Rambling Round: It's a nice place to watch, but is basically a pull-off at the side of a road and hard to take photos from at times. The weeds and plants at the side of the road are taller than I am right now.
Carletta: The area where she was walking around is usually under water. With all the growth I couldn't tell if she was wading in water or if it has dried out there. Yesterday's tennis was pretty exciting at times. I was sorry to see Roddick get beat.
Rose: I wish it was possible to get closer to that area. It is so hard to shoot photos of this place at this time of year.
