I didn't take any new photos over the weekend, but found some I hadn't posted yet.
Anytime we go by Mouteau Park, we look for Meadowlarks.....
....and we always find them by first hearing them sing! Once you pinpoint where they are hiding in the grass, you can see them pop up to sing.
This one was very vocal
One of the few birdsongs that I usually recognize :-)
At home...the Catbird thought the roof was a good spot to sit.
I kept seeing the Downy get suet and then fly up into the tree. Finally I spotted "little Downy" waiting for a meal. He looks plenty big enough to feed himself!
.....but mom was feeding him anyway.
"Can I have some more??"
The Hairy woodpecker was hanging around, too.
When we were in New Harmony taking photos of the swallows, I also took a photo of one of the Golden Raintrees. A little past its best bloom, but still pretty.

I don't know what has happened --I used to see the meadowlark here too---!! The catbirds are still here anyway---Great pictures of the woodpecker really cute!! About 8 years ago we would have so many Evening Grosbeaks you could not keep your feeder full---now I never see one makes me wonder what with that????
Grammie G: We used to have Meadowlarks on the empty lots next to us when we built our house, but after other people built, we no longer saw any around close. It's all about habitat and where they can find to nest, I guess. I never see Evening Grosbeaks so that is one you've enjoyed that I haven't!
I've never seen a meadowlark here in CT. Loved their song and heard it often when I lived in MO and KS back in the dark ages.
A nice collection of pictures. That last one speaks volumes.I like that road is just disappearing over the hill;.
Blessings,Ruth
I love the song of the lark. We seldom get them here and only hear them singing on the wing. Ground nesting birds have a hard time her with all the foxes and feral cats about.
Beautiful photos of both the birds and the landscapes.
Great set of pictures, Mary. I especially enjoyed seeing the Downys and their baby... How cute.
Would love to see a Hairy sometime..
Have a great day tomorrow.
Hugs,
Betsy
Mary, I love that last photo. I cannot even get close enough to a meadowlark to get a blurred photo and you get all these great ones.
These medowlarks look so pretty and must be very vocal.looks like you really enjoyed yourself :)
I've never seen a Meadowlark let alone heard one. I don't think we have them here.
