Yesterday we decided to spend the day driving along the Ohio River scenic road through the small towns of Rockport, Granview, Tell City, and Cannelton.
We stopped at Granview for a picnic and I can see how it got it's name. This is looking downriver towards the bridge at Rockport.
I liked this hunk of driftwood.
We headed to Tell City, which turned out not to be that scenic, but we did see some Purple Martins along the river front.
I seem to be on a roll for seeing different types of swallows right now. A pair....male on the left, female on the right.
There was a lovely row of houses for them in the yard next to the road....which didn't seem to be populated. However....
....they did seem to like this more "old fashioned" house that was a few feet away!
Headed to Cannelton next.
Headed to Cannelton next.

Those murals are absolutely amazing!! What a nice place.
I love it that the martins like the old fashioned house. ;} I remember when I was a kid those houses always fasintated me because usually birds have there territories, when it comes to houses!! I always enjoy your trips so have a good time!!!
Thanks! I have found that many river towns in this part of the country have murals painted on their flood walls. A good use for an other wise boring wall! Tell City had some, but they were sort of faded and didn't look that good.
Oh my, Mary...I love the Cotton Mill...I would have loved to have seen it when it was actually a mill. I would also love to see some of the apartments now just to see what they are like.
I would have wanted to bring that driftwood home!
and i love your dragonfly...I am getting till I like them just as much as I do butterflies.
What a lovely drive you had. I love the murals and love driftwood also. Ann
Oh how peaceful---riding along that river, Mary!!! Looks like a beautiful area... I love that old Cotton Mill and am glad they saved it. And the mural is fabulous... Thanks for sharing your special drive with us.

Rose: I would like to have seen the partments, too. I love when the find a new use for old buildings that have such character. That piece of driftwood was BIG...and I would never have made it down the hill and back up :-)
Ann: It was a very restful drive. Driving along rivers is always interesting.
Betsy: The mural was very well done. I should start a collection of river town murals. I have some photos of others over in Ashland, KY we took last year and know the location of more.
Dorothy: Thanks...it was very nice!
Ruth: There is so much to see in just our state, I don't know how I will ever cover the entire US and more some day! I really want to get up to Canada. Maybe next year!
Becky: It was fun...glad you enjoyed it, too.
Nice road trip! Love that cotton mill building - very majestic - especially like the distant view from across the river.
