Sometimes the flora is more interesting than the fauna....

On a nice day like we had Monday, the scenery at Blue Grass is wonderful even without any critters. This area of stripper pit lakes scattered in meadows is a nature paradise.A view over a lake from one of the boat ramps
Looking back at the road we just traveled....the vegetation is so varied.




Bands of color and different types of grasses are everywhere you look

Large areas of the roadside have this plant that I don't know but love how it looks.

Some of the thistles were still looking good.....this area should be very attractive to the Goldfinches!

I hate these Pokeberries when they grow in my yard, but they look pretty in the wild.

Another lake view. It was hard to lighten the land in the photos and not wash out the beautiful skies.

My favorite for the day, were these "pink" grasses scattered among the other colors. They were like a fluffy pink cloud that had landed.

It is a good thing we went to Blue Grass on Monday, because it has been raining ever since. I've got more photos to stretch out for the rest of the week....I hope...unless the weather changes and I get out somewhere else. I'd like to go back to Blue Grass again soon....it seems to be a good time to go.

A new bird for me.....

We went to Blue Grass yesterday and I saw a bird I've never seen before! Is this a Horned Lark???
I took hundreds of photos.....late afternoon....and none are really perfect.

Certainly an interesting bird.....they were hanging around with a group of Killdeer.

I never saw any horns on any of them. Are they young ones?

I can see yellow more on this one at the throat.

I'm always excited when I see a new bird, even when I'm not sure what it is!

Oh, yes....last Sunday was my 2nd Blogiversary and I didn't even realize it went by! Two years down and who knows how many to go! Thanks to all my loyal visitors who give me help identifying things and stop by with nice comments, even when I get so busy I don't get around to your blogs. Art from New Harmony.....

Besides the Quilt Show we dashed out to New Harmony long enough for me to buy a couple gourds for birdhouses and some local honey. I was too tired to do much else and only took 6 photos while I was there! There was a man selling metal art and I thought the Superman was rather cool.

Non-Squirrel Sunday........

No squirrels this week.....I've been busy with quilts.

This weekend was the Raintree Quilt Guild's quilt show for 2009. We had over 200 beautiful quilts hanging of all sizes and types. I'm showing a few today. I had 3 quilts and a vest in the show. This is the bed quilt I made last year out of batik fabrics.
A lap quilt I made in a class. There were 4 others just like it in different fabrics in the show. It was a fun class.

I love this little Rain Forest quilt of Mary Jane's. She is going to use it in her classroom.

Karen Hampton did these fantastic wall hangings for her daughter's wedding. They are rolled at the bottom. Must look amazing hanging in her church! She is a real artist.

Karen also did this very realistic fall barn scene. Wonderful!

This Celtic bed quilt if much prettier than the colors look in this photo. The light wasn't the best.

A beautiful Sudoku quilt. Anyone who loves working sudoku puzzles would love one of these quilts :-) I like how the quilter framed this one and quilted the numbers in the squares.
