Ice storm and snow.....more snow!

We had numerous power surges last night, so we powered the computer down and I didn't get to set a post up until now. That lets me include a few quick photos of the ice that came overnight. The deck area

As soon as I was back in the house, the swarms started. The Red-Bellied beat the Downy to the favorite suet, but there are still a couple out there. I'm running low on everything.....of course....since we now have weather that will keep me stuck at home.

I stood across the room to take this, because I don't want to keep the birds away from the food. I hope all those bully birds don't show up today, although I know they are hungry, too.

Mike headed off to work.....I hope he makes it. The snow is powdery, but there is ice underneath.

This is how today really looks.....not a lot of snow, but more is on the way today.The GTI is OK in the snow.....as long as it doesn't get too deep!
I'm swamped with starlings today because of the bad weather, but they did give me one funny shot below.....

I call this the Starling "Hokey Pokey"......

My World Tuesday....

When posting this last night, I fully expected to wake up to snow this morning, so these are obviously not photos from this week! Mike and I took these photos back in October and I thought he would post them in his blog, but he never did. So, since I need a post....here they are!The Evansville Museum Transportation Center sits in a separate building outside the Evansville Museum down on the riverfront.
In back of the building is a small selection of cars that the museum has owned for years. They were moved from the nearest rail crossing, by laying one section of track at a time, moving the cars, pulling up the track and moving it in front of the train, moving up the cars...etc.

This Tennessee Club car is particularly nice....more on that in a minute.

You can walk through all of the cars and they make a very colorful grouping!

The name of this little "railroad" is the Sprinklesburg, Goosetown & Independence R.R. I believe those were all authentic stops for the area trains, but not the actual name of a railroad.

They drove a golden spike to commemorate the one driven in Utah. I had to take a photo because this historic occurrence shares my birthday!

This is the inside of the Tennessee Club Car. These windows are etched with the Tennessee State Capital on one side and the name on the other....very nice!

According to the sign this car was used in two Presidential campaigns!

Looks like a comfortable way to travel.

.....well, Mike might find the beds a trifle short.
Inside the building there is information on a lot of other types of transportation connected with the area.

All the best gulls eat at McDonalds and then head to Target....

On the way to church Sunday, we saw a huge flock of gulls in the parking lot behind the bank and stopped for a couple of shots.They were all hunkered down resting peacefully.
I believe that I'm safe in saying they are Ring-Billed Gulls.

After church we realized they had moved over to the McDonald's parking lot and Target's adjoining lot. Now we had more time so we stopped to take more photos.

People kept driving up and stopping to watch them. I wanted flight shots, but they were swarming so and the gloomy sky and busy background were defeating me on focusing on any one bird in the air.

Here are some photos of them stirring around that show the wings and tails in different positions. Best we could do.

A woman came from somewhere with a bag of food and stood there feeding a bunch of them. I would have been afraid of being swarmed by all these hungry mouths!

There is one on the left side that is more "spotty"....a juvenile?

I wish the sun had been shining. This is two Sundays in a row they have been in that area. The first Sunday we saw them, they were all in a field near the railroad tracks, with only a few in the parking lots here.

"Maybe I'll just move in here permanently. I think I can sleep in here if I try."

(It actually took him several days to find the open top! Later another squirrel was doing it the hard way again. No one says squirrels are smart!)
