Nashville quilt show pictures link

This is a link to a Shutterfly album of pictures from the Nashville Quilt Show that I attended a couple weeks ago. I know that several of you were interested. This does not include some of the smaller exhibits of stuff. I didn't think that Shutterfly would let me put that many photos in one album....they never have in the past. They tend to scramble the order of the quilts and separate the close-ups from the full shots.....don't know why, but not worth fixing.

Over-dosed on hummingbirds....

OK....I put the "leftovers" back in the fridge temporarily. Sometimes you just suddenly get the urge to over-dose on something you love. This little hummingbird showed up today and posed for a long time! For once my camera was taking perfect shots with great focus and color.

I like watching them sit almost more then hovering. You can study them so much better, looking at every feather and detail!

They twist and turn and fan their tails and flick their tongues.

When they aren't busy chasing away their competitors, they actually take time to drink some nectar.

After eating when they sit down they always flick their tongue in and out a few times. His eyelid is closed, too! I saw that several times today in these pictures.

This hummer has one little perfect "jewel" of ruby red at his throat!
I've never seen such a small single spot....like a beautiful gem that kept catching the light.

They look so funny when they do this!! I have no idea what it means!

It sat around with its mouth open a lot.

I'd swear that it looks like its singing or laughing! He's got his eye closed again.
OK.......I can't help it.....they just fascinate me and they won't be here too much longer.

Leftover geese and duck......

I guess I'm serving "fowl" for leftovers today!
I stopped at Garvin Park last week to see what the ducks and geese were doing and had an enjoyable time watching all the fowl that were cruising the lake. It's not a real big lake, but has a fairly large resident population of ducks and Canada geese. This picture is about half of the lake.

This is the other half of the lake with the fountain and the geese cruising in groups.

A man and his son arrived with bread to feed them, so suddenly everyone started converging on one spot.

"One of these things is not like the others. One of these things just doesn't belong...."

This is only about half of the total number that were there.

The little boy had a great time trying to feed them.

Being so packed started a lot of posturing activity.
Wings flapping, chests out........they took turns doing this.

Here are a bunch more just arriving! They must have gotten the word a bit late.
Well.....that's today's leftovers. Hmmmm.....what will be on the menu for tomorrow?

Flora and Fauna at the arboretum.....

While I was at the Hartman Arboretum last week, besides photographing the bees and butterflies I also enjoyed the flowers. The over-all look is getting a bit worn with summer ending, but there was individual beauty in each area.

I also saw at least 6 Monarch Caterpillars on the milkweed, so I will intersperse pictures of them with the flowers. Here were 3 on one plant!

I honestly can't tell one end from the other on these things!

Is he coming or going???
