I saw this sapsucker in the maple tree earlier today. I hate to tell him, he is a few weeks too early! I don't think the sap is flowing in this cold weather.
He was way up high. Look at that sharp pointy beak.
Mostly I got back views.
These two of him digging in the bark were the best. A juvenile....not much red on the head yet.
Last week we had some warmer temperatures, but now it is in the 20's again. A nice diversion to see a bird that doesn't often come to visit.

I like to see the sapsuckers. I don't see those often. We have lots of Cardinals, Goldfinch, Chipping Sparrows and Brown-headed Nuthatches here.
It has been awhile since I've seen a sapsucker in my backyard.

I've never seen a sapsucker I don't think.. IF I have, I didn't recognize it... You got some great pictures of him...

That dear little bird does look a bit cold. I hope he sticks around for you, and maybe brings a mate.
I had one of the sapsuckers coming here for a while...now it has been more than a week since he was here.
