I've been out of town.....out of state....since early Thursday morning and just got back home today.
Where have I been?
I'll give you a clue....that isn't snow!
A few "characters" we found one afternoon......more later :-)
A couple more.
I kept trying to decide if I like this photo just as it is, or if I wanted to crop in closer on the birds. For now it will stay as it is. We have been to Destin, Florida for our nephew's wedding on the beach. It was lovely and we had a great time and I got in one day of bird watching. I think that I counted up at least 17 different bird species in the 4 days we were there and that doesn't count the common ones like House Sparrows, Doves and Starlings. A couple were even new for me...always a joy!
We spent 10 hours on the road today, so I will not post more now....maybe not tomorrow either :-) Will catch up when I can.

Sounds like you had a great trip, Mary. Can't wait to see more of your photos.
Hugs,
Betsy
Wow! You HAVE been out of town! Don't you just love that white sand and blue water at Destin!!!
Love your new header! Great shots!
Oh Mary, how wonderful! Were the herons guests at the wedding too? I'm with you, that pair of herons look best uncropped. sometimes the surrounding is as important as the bird.
Lovely to have you back.
Mary--how wonderful! We lived in Mary Esther many years ago and loved those white sand beaches in Destin! I bet you had a wonderful trip, and that it was great being at the wedding! Glad you got some bird watching in too. LOVE your new header picture. The herons are just lovely. And thank you so much for the new mug coaster! It is just lovely, and I was so surprised to get it!!!
Fabulous. Glad to hear you had a special time. I am looking forward to seeing more pictures. These are great.
You could certainly have fooled me over the sand, Mary! What a lovely family occasion - and with a little birding thrown in. Incidentally I love those quilted birds on your right sidebar ...
We have been snow-bound this w/e, but there was quite a than today, so if it freezes tonight, we will have ice to look forward to. Those herons are amazing. The cormorants on the river Orwell have been very busy flying up and down, trying to find fish in the cold water.
I love that red squirrel quilt, too. We only saw one squirrel in the USA, and it was rather cold and bedraggled (like us at that point!). I would LOVE to have seen a raccoon!
Betsy: Thanks!
Dorothy: Yes, the sand is amazing and looked so much like hills of snow.
Arija: LOL...no, the herons skipped the wedding but there were lots of gulls and sanderlings attending :-)
Marie: Destin, has gotten a lot more over populated since the last time we were there, but it is still a lovely place if you can get away from some of the people.
Ruth: Thanks!
Caroline:Yes, weddings, beaches and birding are a pretty nice combination. We had a good time and nice little break from winter. thanks...about the quilting. I wish I could give you the raccoon who knocks down my feeders and eats a lot of the bird seed.
MARY that has upset me sand that looks like snow and new birds whilst I am freezing here in the UK, still the cold weather wont last much longer we said only last night the evenings are getting lighter. XXX Don
Mary, I swear that second one is just simply fabulous. It would make a glorious photo to enlarge and frame and hang!
Actually, now that I have enlarged all of them, I couldn't choose which one if I could only choose one. All three are fantastic.
Show's you how long it's been since I visited your blog. I didn't kow you were gone. I love Florida, and would go every winter if I could! Such a wonderful birding experience.

Those heron on the bridge are just beautiful! I really like the way their colours are so similar to that of the bridge! My opinion would be to crop it, but that is just me...
Don: Thanks and I hope you have warmer weather soon. Ours just turned very cold...I want to go back to Florida!
Rose: Thanks! I took lots of bridge, fence photos while there it seems, as well as birds. It was lovely for the 4 days we were there.
Becky: Wish I could go back for a few more days!
Judy: It was pretty neat...they just stood around and ignored us. Sure not like the ones here.
Congratulations! What a lovely place for a wedding and to bird as well!
Love that first picture of the sand ... but I really did think it was snow until I read.
