Cabbage White, open and tattered.....

I never usually see Cabbage White's open, but Thursday I got lucky again.

It looks very tattered, but still beautiful.

This one was in better shape!

Another open shot.....I was thrilled to see the entire butterfly for a change.  Usually I get the edge of the wings, if I get anything at all.

That poor tattered one.....open but not in good shape.

It amazes me when they can still fly all torn and withered.

"I am butterfly....hear me roar!"

Painted Lady......

I just love Painted Lady butterflies!

They are so beautiful and they love the zinnias which made a great backdrop for them.

I was hoping to see an American Painted Lady, also.  Instead of the 4 small "eyes" on the hindwings, it has 2 large ones.  I've only seen one once before.

When we first saw it, it was on the ground sunning itself maybe?

It likes the other flowers, too.

This little butterfly is usually in the grass and won't open up for me.

But it seems to really like Sedum flowers and was open or half open much of the time.

End of summer and lots of flying things......

I couldn't think of a title that seemed to fit this post :-)  I saw so many butterflies today and they let me take photos of them with their wings open more often then usual!  We went to Hartman Arboretum, which is always a great place to seek "flying things".

I liked this thistle and bug.....the light on it was just right for a change.

Only Sulphur shot I took, but I have posted them recently.  The zinnias are very popular with the butterflies.

The Silver Spotted Skipper laid out flat!  It usually only shows me the "white elephant" mark on its side.  Today I caught it open several times.

And the "white elephant" side.  I liked how it was hanging.

One wing only :-)  It is amazing how different this side looks and you can't figure out where the elephant went!

I don't know this skipper's name, but it let me see its back. 

The sedum flowers were attracting dozens of butterflies, skippers, bees, etc.

Bee and Skipper.  These little tawny colored skippers were all over.

A moth.....I just love their hairy heads.

Milkweed bugs. 

 I was surprised that the milkweed was all dried up already and was hoping to find Monarch caterpillars. 

Buckeyes like sedum, too.

Visiting another Indiana blogger friend......

Sorry I haven't posted much lately, but this past weekend was our local quilt show and I've been busy.

 However, last Thursday I got to go to Clinton, Indiana and finally meet Rose from Pics & Pieces and Time Stand Still!  I was very excited.  We've been emailing each other for a couple of years and keep talking about meeting, but never manage it.  Mike had to go to Rockville, Indiana which is just north of Clinton, so this seemed like an ideal opportunity!

We spent most of our time talking, but what would be more appropriate when visiting

Rose than a visit to her beloved strip pits where she takes many of her photos?  So off we went!  This road shot with a barn in the distance seemed like the sort of thing that she posts, so I had to post it first :-)

She has better eyes than I do and saw an eagle when we got to the strip pits......that little black dot in this cloud is it!  I actually got a closer shot, but liked these clouds :-)

Across from one of the lakes were some cows in a private field.

We could see some birds on a lake in the distance.....but couldn't get near it.  Canada Geese and some ducks.  I liked the power poles in the background.  It just seemed so typical of this part of Indiana....nature and energy next door to each other.

The pits were gorgeous and all ringed with these yellow flowers that are everywhere at the moment.

The cows had one tree they were trying to gather around for shade.

12 Spotted Skimmer, I think.  I don't see these very often.

Lots of Buckeyes....just like down here further south in Indiana.

The second eagle sighting we had.  I at least got the white tail of this one!

I was amazed to see this long brick road out in the middle of nowhere!  She said it was an old WPA project from the 30's. 

At Rose's house we talked for hours.....about cats, quilts, books, nature, photography, family, etc.!  One of her cats ( Sorry, Rose....I can't remember which one this is!) liked my stack of quilts.  I had taken some quilts along to show Rose since I knew we would discuss quilts and sewing.  I got to see all of her lovely quilts, too and was so busy looking, I didn't think to pick up the camera and take any photos!

Clinton, Indiana is right on the Wabash River.  Where I live the Wabash runs along the state border between Indiana and Illinois, but up here it runs across the state and we crossed it a couple of times on this trip.  This was a shot from the downtown area where Mike dropped me off and picked me up again.

An interesting fountain.  So much to see and we were only there a few hours.  Now it is her turn to come down here next!  Thanks for the hospitality, Rose and Roger and hope to see you again soon.  I had such a good time meeting you!
