Skywatch Friday.....

These are last Saturday's skies.....we went to 2 local festivals that day and the sky was very dramatic. The kind of sky that made you want to shoot it with something standing out in it. Top of the Princeton, Indiana Courthouse. If anyone collects Dept 56 Snow Village pieces...this is the courthouse they used for their model. It's a lovely building. This one looks like a storm brewing, but it was just a cloudy but nice day.

Hodgepodge.....

Well....it's mid-week left-overs again! I always seem to run out of stuff or have left over stuff about this time of week. I was too busy yesterday to take photos

One last goose shot.....I thought it looked like ballet and I like the colors in the reflections on the lake.....a bit of fall color already.

A "Daddy Long Legs".....which I learned are NOT spiders. (They have head and body fused and only 2 eyes instead of 8). My son told me that, so of course I had to check to make sure he was right. The proper name of this creature is a Harvestman. He seems to be missing a leg on the right and has that double size one on the left! Why the weird leg size on the left ??? I remember in Girl Scouts picking these off the sides of our tent by their legs and scaring the more squeamish girls. That is probably how a lot of them end up missing legs!

A grosbeak that stopped in for a few minutes and I only got one shot before he was gone. In a hurry to get south, I guess.

An interesting flower at the arboretum that insisted on facing the wrong way, so I could not get a better shot.

Probably one of the last Monarchs that I will see.

Winterberry.....I liked the color and there were some that were redder, also.

Well.....that's not much. Good thing SkyWatch is tomorrow.....I always have the sky!

Watery Wednsday.....

The water at the wetlands slough was low the last time I was there. Not sure if it was from our summer drought or because of work they were doing on some pipelines in the area.

The geese managed to find an area to stand in near the boardwalks and were all gathered in that area.

1's and 2's and 3's and 4's......

As I went back over these photos, it seemed like they were all in numbers.... 1 moth.....no idea what kind

1 wasp.....nasty looking!

1 strange bee (?) I really don't know exactly what it is but it had that distinctive yellow stripe.

Some of these were from Hartman Arboretum and some from Howell Wetlands. I went to both the same day to see what had been happening while I was on vacation.

Ruby Tuesday...Amazonia at Mesker Park Zoo

Last week I went with family to visit our new Amazonia exhibit at the Mesker Park Zoo and I realized that there were several very "ruby" things to see :-) No idea what these plants are but they were exotic and gorgeous looking.

These are more familiar......and very red!

I could have watched this lovely bird for hours.....Red Crested Cardinal. It wouldn't come out of the trees where I could see it any better.

That red head really stands out!

It had a lovely nest....no red.....but still beautiful :-)

Scarlet Ibis were everywhere.

The Spoonbills aren't as red, but much more fun to watch. They were balancing on a vine and having a hard time of it.

At least when they would lose their balance, I got to see their wings better! With the red plants below, there was a nice lot of red to see!
