Cherry Blossom Pink.......

I love when the Ornamental Cherry Tree begins to bloom!  Even though the flowers aren't completely open yet, I like the way they look like little bouquets!

This is my first time to use the new editor for Blogger and I can't figure out how to do half of the stuff I want to do.  Frustrating, but I guess I will get used to it.

Eagle cam reminder.....they are growing fast!

The eagle nest cam at Norfolk, VA is still giving wonderful information about baby eagles growing up. The three little ones, which hatched in mid-March are getting pretty big and soon they will be banding them. The time will be announced on the site. This cam is so super and there are no advertisments or anything. There is a great moderated discussion with it and classrooms all over the world are watching these little eagles. Around the yard.....

The weather is so nice now and spring is popping out all over the place. Our yard was a mess of tree limbs that came down over the winter. Mike decided it was time to get to work and I got out for some walking and exercise around the yard....slowly :-) Mike discovered that the free "grabber" that they gave me in the hospital was perfect for picking up sticks! He has problems with vertigo, so this was a great discovery. He cleaned up the whole front yard in no time and even found a place to carry it on the tractor for picking up sticks that are in the way while mowing. Mouse is really enjoying the cooler temps and fresh air, but her fur is a mess and soon she will have to be shaved to get rid of all the build up of shed fur that is matted all over her. I know she is very uncomfortable right now. Rotten cat is too mean to let us comb her.

I have lots of "wild flowers", better known as weeds in the yard. A lovely dandelion.

Soon we will have millions of these maple tree "helicopters" all over the yard.

Violets everywhere! One of my favorite flowers and I don't care if they fill the whole yard with their beauty. Who needs grass??

Around back there are a few of these real pale almost white ones.

Wild onion clumps

I believe this is Henbit, but not positive......some weed (oops...I mean wild flower)

I call this one the "little yellow star flowers".....never can remember their real name.

Not sure what this is, but I like the leaves.

A baby oak tree. I thought the little arrangement of 3 acorns at the top was cute :-)

We have a young looking groundhog that must be living along the creek somewhere and we keep seeing him in the lower part of the yard.

On the woods side of the pond, there is a Canada Goose with a nest. Her mate spends the day swimming around on the pond. We have a pair of Mallards hanging around, too. The female is the same banded one that I have seen for the last 2 years. Haven't gotten a photo of her yet this year.

You can see from my header that the lilacs are beginning to burst into bloom. Will get a better photo when they are a little more open.

Eagle watching in Henderson, KY......

We drove over to Henderson today to check on the eagle's nest and the heron rookery. The eagle was on the nest when we got there but seemed very restless.It got up and walked around the nest. I think it was ready for its mate to come takes its place. It finally got ready to take off....... ......take off. Mike was taking these photos using our extender lens and the monopod. Still a great distance out there.

The eagle just flew a short loop to stretch its wings and came back and sat out on this limb for a long time. We can't figure out if there is anything in the nest or not.

Watching over the nest.

This nest is easily 500 yards or more out in the swamp on the edge of the heron rookery. It is in a good place to see, but so far out there!

So frustrating not to know! I guess if there is, it will be sticking up more soon.

The bad news: We went on down along the river to look for ducks and my camera quit.....nothing.....just white when I look through it. Not a good sign. Or a cheap one. Don't know when I will be getting it fixed, but will screw that big lens onto the older camera and do my best with it for awhile. Wouldn't you know it would quit right at tax time and after a very expensive surgery! Like I have extra money at the moment????

Molting Goldfinch.....

I was looking out the front door and saw this molting Goldfinch. What a mess it looks right now! In a few days it should be a beautiful yellow male. I look forward to seeing them all decked out in their summer color.

A definite sign of spring :-)

I'm not getting out much except for PT so far. Lots of stiffness and swelling still in that knee. Apparently that will last for several months. Had the staples out on Wednesday (that's "ouch" x 24). Feels better without them pulling on the skin. Next week is suppose to be sunny and warmer so I plan to start some short walks on our road.
