Squirrel Sunday....

Somebody learned a new trick this week!

Definite signs of Spring....

Each day more and more signs are there....spring is coming!Puddles in the driveway....a definite sign of spring around here! Will probably rain all weekend.
Guess who is beginning to change color! Yeah! The Goldfinches are becoming golden!

Can't impress the lady finches if you don't put on your spring yellow with your jaunty black cap :-)

Every day the Maple flowers swell more.....however, a rainy day isn't the best time to take their photo while standing inside the house!

I saw this scene while stopped at a red light...thankfully! Robin singing in the tree as the grasses wave along the fence.

I seem to have a persistent handful of Grackles that won't leave.

If your tail gets in the way.....just push it to one side.

Meadowlark!

The first one I've seen at the park! It wasn't singing, which is usually how I find them. This one was pretty shy and every time I drove the car a little closer, he would fly to the opposite end of the roadside....sigh. Hopefully, better photos in a week or so.

I love seeing Meadowlarks with that beautiful yellow color and that black V at the neck! I know for sure it is spring when they show up.

Nearing the end of a pretty day.

Who knows what new signs will show up tomorrow....I'm ready!

SkyWatch Friday.....

It's SkyWatch Friday!

This week was full of good skies, but these are all from last Sunday. The clouds were on fire!

The rain had just ended and the clouds were peeling away to reveal the scenes above of golden fire.

And in the east.....right after the storm, a rainbow streatched from sky to sky. Of course I was in a parking lot when I saw it, but I was coming out of the closing for a Christian men's retreat, so it was pretty cool timing!

The colors were very vivid when I first saw it.

That was the sky that began my week! It was blue all week long after that.

Good day for looking.....

The sun was shining so we drove across the bridge to check the eagle. I can see a head sticking up on the left side of the nest. We didn't see the male anywhere around.
Down below the eagles, is a slough area and the turtles were enjoying the sun.

Way out in the water we could see a few Canada geese and some ducks.

This is heavily cropped so I could try to figure out the ducks....Looks like a Wood Duck. Sure wish it had been closer.

We took a gravel road and kept stirring up Horned Larks along the way. It is funny to watch them walk down the road in front of us as we slowly tag along.

I got out for a couple photos and he just kept right on walking the road.

We knew there was another slough nearby called Eagle Slough and we finally managed to find it, because they have recently put up a sign.

There is a trail to walk.....at least half a mile....with a side trail that led to a small blind, but there wasn't much there except some turtles and a pair of Canada geese. Saw a few songbirds in the trees.

The weather was great and the sky nice and spring-like.

The trail ends at a small body of water and Mike could see this group of Cormorants way out behind some scrub trees. I could barely see over the trees to even tell they were there. Mike is taller and is standing on a little hill to take this photo.

It was a nice walk, but a little long for my bad knee. Will have to go back here later in the year.

Was it something I said?.......

Hmmmmmm.....I don't think this guy likes me! Or maybe it is the food he doesn't like?
The Wren looks a bit grumpy this morning, too.
Come on, guys....Spring is here, cheer up!

The Hairy Woodpecker paid me a visit. They don't come as often as the Downy's.

Here she is by the suet feeder and you can see that she is almost the same size. The beak is much more substantial, too.

The Downy came by later.....only a little over half the size of the feeder.

Those first two customers may not have been happy with the food, but this Titmouse liked the suet just fine!

The Cardinal was happy with his seeds, too. I think that Goldfinch is telling him it is his turn!

I still have a half dozen or more Junco's hanging around cleaning up under the feeders.

The Chickadee found the peanuts I put out. I expected the Titmouse to be the first to find them, but never saw him on the feeder. Maybe tomorrow.

I think he found one!
