Squirrel Sunday....

Hmmmmmm......where are the squirrels today?"I don't think she sees me here."
"I think I can pull this over where I can steal all these seeds and she'll never know!"

"Oops.....busted!"

It must be the bow.....

Even the birds appreciate a little Christmas decoration and cheer....The suet cake with the bow has become the most popular spot out there. Mr. Bluejay looks great with a nice bow under him.
The Downys are there constantly. The male has become very territorial when other Downys show up.

The Red-Bellied has no problem pushing his way in for a bit of "bow sitting" and suet.

"Smile....you're on candid camera"
The Carolina Wren gets a chance.
The Titmouse takes a turn......
....but would just as soon have a peanut :-) I can't believe he can fly away with that whole thing in his mouth, but he managed.
The Squirrel gets his own bow......and the woodpeckers share that one, too.
Well....OK...maybe it isn't the bow...its the suet :-) Might as well have a little fun while I'm taking photos.

SkyWatch Friday......

(Nature post below this one)
It's SkyWatch Friday time! I don't have much today.......but an art gallery downtown agreed to hang some of our "flying challenge" quilts from last year and right now my SkyWatch Friday quilt is one of them.....the big one in the middle. I tried to get the sky reflecting in the window as well as the quilt. I posted about this quilt in my quilt blog back in May. That post is here..... My SkyWatch Friday quilt in the making....
That's my sky for this week!

Ground feeders.....

Some of the ground feeding birds were busy by the front step yesterday giving me a lot of "front, side, and back" views to study. I'm including this rather distant shot, just because it had 3 of them in it at once....Junco, Song Sparrow, and Carolina Wren.
The Cardinal doesn't usually pose very well for me....too skitterish, but he didn't see me when he sat on the hook while heading down to the seeds on the ground.

A side shot....

.....a back shot. I love being able to study the colors and patterns of bird feathers.
The House Finch male sat in the dish for awhile giving me his side view......
....and back view. I like the subtle reddish color mixed in the grey.
The Song Sparrow moves so much, I didn't think I would ever get a decent shot, but he finally posed for a few seconds. Sparrows always have interesting combinations of stripes and colors.
The back view....I like the back stripes and wing edges. I never see a lot of Song Sparrows, but always have at least a pair hanging around in the bushes somewhere.
The Carolina Wren was all over the place, but I got some decent shots while she checked out the lid full of suet mix. I put that down there just for her.
.....she gave me the back end view, too. I like the tail and how they flip it up.
I got lots of bird shots yesterday right outside my own door. Will post more tomorrow.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr.......

It was COLD yesterday and suppose to be worse today.Ozma knows how to spend a cold day....curl up on a warm cushion under the tree and do a bit of snoozing and dreaming.
The early morning light on the lake. The sky was funny all day and the wind cold.

A couple ducks who look like they are swimming on aluminum foil. I didn't even want to go outside and just opened the door and shot from the doorway.
The Bluejay found some seeds and corn, so he wasn't complaining too much.
A new suet cake for the Downy.....she was happy.

The squirrel was having a little trouble squeezing onto this feeder! He doesn't usually come to this one right by the door. Either really hungry or getting brave :-)
